“Having started the 1st Dan training I could see where your training from White to red belt all starts to come together and then move forward adding another layer to your training. Well worth getting”.
“The one-on-one sessions with Andy Sensei are fantastic as he takes the time to meet his students, review their form and provide constructive feedback. All you need is space, time and the self-discipline to train. I cannot recommend this enough!”.

“The instructions are clear and are delivered with same valued teaching which I experience in the Dojo.”.
“I have found these online tools invaluable to adding that extra dimension to training. We all learn in various ways and being very visual, I find it a great tool.”.
I never thought I was going to be doing this. Look at me. On the wrong side of my forties. At the computer all day. My fighting days were over, I thought. And then, a friend suggested “Why don’t we train something together?” Just a minor problem; we live in different continents, and, because of my work, I travel a lot. So, traditional dojos were out of the question. Luckily, because of the pandemic, there were plenty of online offerings. But which one to choose? My friend came to the rescue, suggesting NorthStar Martial Arts, from Australia. I’ve never heard of them, or their style of Ju Jitsu. Why, I asked my friend, should we choose this over the many other offerings? But he had that question already answered. Just look at the curricula, he said.

Highly recommended! These courses are very detailed and have videos, photos and quizzes to help you achieve your best on the mats. They also share the history of the system which gives you a greater appreciation for the system that Andy sensei has created.

Being a lifelong martial artist, I was skeptical of joining online martial arts training. I researched a few options and came upon Northstar Ju Jitsu and the Mastery Academy. I am so happy I did. I have really enjoyed the training so far. The Mastery Academy has so much to offer. It’s changing my life, it will change yours for the better. Five stars.

NorthStar offers a lot of things: comprehensive training in both grappling, submission and striking. A great, systematic way to learn. Good physical training (vital after years of bad habits for me). Great online forums and very present reviews. But especially, it offers Andy Sensei. Not only a brilliant teacher of Martial Arts, but someone who writes a lot about them. It was the writing that cinched it for me. Not only could I understand what and how to do something, but crucially, I could understand why. And that is why I’m there, sparring daily with my kids, with friends that I made in other places, practicing at home and at hotel gyms. The why, as mediated by Sensei Andy (and the lovely, patient Liz at the admin who answers your every question) is what kept me going. It’s a wonderful system. But the best system, with crappy teachers, isn’t good for much. Come to NorthStar, Be happy.

I have found these courses essential for perfecting my technique. Along with my practice in the Dojo, my training has become a more well rounded experience over all. I can learn at my own pace at home. With the well structured videos it leaves no questions unanswered. I’ve also found them invaluable before grading.
Doing these tutorials is extremely helpful, particularly for the higher belt grades as complexity of the self and multiple defences increase significantly. You get the most out of the dojo sessions if you study the curriculum at home and just have to practice the application in class – this way you get confident for the grading in no time!
A great source of information. This was a huge help for me learning and understanding the new multiple defence. I was able to watch Angus over and over again to ensure I was getting it right. The instruction for the self defence and ground defence was also invaluable. I’m sure these course will be utilised many times.
I have found these online tools invaluable to adding that extra dimension to training. We all learn in various ways and being very visual, I find it a great tool. Having Andy Sensei and the senior students using foundation techniques, and explanations that I can watch on my phone while travelling, keeps my finger on the pulse anywhere. Thanks Andy Sensei
Unique And Invaluable Lessons The lessons I have learned during from the Northstar program have also been unique and invaluable. On Saturday night I was lucky enough to be taken along to the Rugby league test (Oz vs England), and it was my Northstar training that allowed me to not only avoid a vicious alcohol fueled brawl right next to where I was sitting, but also to identify the looming fight and assist my hosts in getting out of the danger area promptly. Thanks once again for your interest and willingness to help me to progress
NorthStar Has (And Continues) To Help Me With My Inner Demons For a while pre joining, for a long time after and occasionally now, I have suffered from depression. NorthStar has (and continues) to help me with my inner demons….it has been the best drug whenever I feel down.
Incredible influence Drew and Martin have had an incredible influence on Atlas in the short time he has been coming. He was quite withdrawn and lacking confidence. He was finding it difficult to play with other children and hurting his little brother a lot. 6 months later he is now playing with lots of children, speaking up if play gets rough with other kids and not hurting his little brother. He talks often about Drew and Martin and says ‘What would Mr Drew do?’ if something is hard or scary. You have amazing teachers and Atlas and ourselves will miss your classes greatly. I hope to find somewhere else to provide such strong male role models for our kids outside of their father.

Terrific grading Just wanted to drop you a line and say thank you for a terrific grading last Sunday at North Sydney. Ben is so proud of himself for gaining his Junior Black Belt. It is wonderful to see him achieve something he has worked so hard towards, through hard work and dedication. A huge thank you to Angus and Carlos for working with him towards this. We look forward to seeing him continue to grow and develop at Northstar. Thank you and kind regards

All Black Belts are graded by Andy Dickinson Sensei.
